My Two Year Post Spinal Fusion Surgery Update!

Wow I cannot believe it has been two years since my surgery already! I thought I'd write a quick update about my progress and also answer a few of the questions that I've been sent on my Instagram account.

The most popular question by far is 'How are you doing?'

I'm doing great! I've recently finished my Bachelors of Kinesiology degree and I'm excited to be working in healthcare. My spine no longer annoys me at all - except for the odd nerve re-connection (but those are becoming more and more rare). My two year 'spine-aversary' has made me reflect on how lucky I am to have gotten spinal fusion when I did. I realize that there are a lot of spinal fusion surgeries that had been postponed or rescheduled (even a few times) due to the current pandemic.

A lot of people have also asked my how my scar has heeled. I think it has been healing quite well! You can judge for yourself with the picture below!

Overall, I'm so glad that I got spinal fusion. I can't even begin to describe how much it has helped my physical comfort, mental health, and other aspects of my life. Although I can confidently say that having this surgery was one of the best decisions I ever made. I know at the time of getting surgery it can seem very scary, and during the initial recovery phase it can be hard to see the positives of surgery; however, I know if I didn't go through with having surgery I would have regretted it.

The fact that I no longer experience chronic pain is such a blessing, as I didn't realize at the time how much it was impacting my mental health and how I viewed myself. For my next blog post I will be writing about mental health and Scoliosis, so please feel free to message me any questions about mental health and overall wellness while going through spinal fusion recovery!

Once again I would like to thank EVERYONE who has supported me through my journey. My family and friends have provided me with unwavering support, and everyone who's continued to read my blog and support me through messages, comments, and sharing my posts have also really helped. So thank you everyone for all of your support, my journey would not be how it was without all of you!

This blog is my own personal experience and journey with Scoliosis. It is not a medical blog, and if anyone has concerns about their own health, they should see a physician.
