An Update: I'm Back!
I'm back from my hiatus! I hope you've all been doing well and staying healthy!
I decided to take a brief hiatus from my blog in order to be more creative and generate more blog ideas. I found it difficult during lockdown to be creative or have motivation to write or read or do much of anything to be honest. I feel as though a lot of individuals can resonate with being unmotivated and feeling down during this pandemic. For me personally, lockdown was also a time to focus on my family and seeing what healthy interventions could be implemented into our daily lives. Both of my parents are essential workers, so I decided to focus on improving our nutrition as a family unit. Cooking became my new creative outlet, and it also gave me an opportunity to nourish my body and continue to help with its recovery.
In terms of my physical rehabilitation, not much has changed... My nerves are still reconnecting in my back and leg, which is very exciting (minus the random millisecond pains I get). I've also been gradually working out more, with most of my workouts happening in my apartment since the gyms have closed in Toronto, Canada (where I'm residing). Some of the workouts I do are mainly centred around regaining my core and lower back strength, so I've been doing yoga, abdominal strengthening exercises, and going for walks (with a mask of course)! My scar is also starting to fade more now, even without applying any oils or cream to it. Also, my skin has pretty mush tightened back up in the areas it was a bit loose in after surgery!
I'm back in Toronto for my final year of my undergraduate degree, so I've found the transition from in-person school to online school somewhat challenging to do in my graduating year. I know that the pandemic has altered how the whole world operates, and I'd like to extend a huge thank you to all essential workers! Whether they're nurses, doctors, grocery store clerks, delivery personnel, pilots, volunteers or caretakers I thank you for your service!
I also wanted to include a few mental health resources in this post, as I know these times are tough for a lot of people (Canada and USA):
Moving forward, my blog will be focused on getting back to my 'normal' self, with more post spinal fusion surgery workout routines, life hacks, and scoliosis awareness on a global level.
As always, if you have any blog post suggestions, please send me a message on here or on instagram. I plan to be posting new blog posts every six weeks!
I also encourage everyone to look at their federal, provincial (or state), or local COVID-19 guidelines, and to follow them for the greater-good. The sooner everyone pitches in and does what they can to limit the spread of COVID-19, the sooner we can get back to somewhat normal.
This blog is my own personal experience and journey with Scoliosis. It is not a medical blog, and if anyone has concerns about their own health, they should see a physician.
