Life Update: How I'm Doing
Every time I upload a new post to my blog, I get messages from people asking me how I'm currently doing. After receiving a few of these messages, I decided it was time to fill you all in with a little life update.
Firstly, I'm almost done my second year of university! I have my final exams in April, and I'm looking forward to traveling back home and seeing my family and friends again. After I booked my flights back home to British Columbia, the reality of having spinal fusion surgery started to seem more real. I booked my pre-operation appointment for the middle of May, and within two weeks of the appointment I will be (or at least should be) having my operation.
The whole point of this blog was to share my personal experiences during my Scoliosis journey, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. I don't quite know what to expect yet from the pre-operation appointment, all I know as of right now is that it takes a whole day! That being said, the hospital did say they'd send instructions and an overview of what tests I would be needing, although I assume it will be along the lines of basic blood work, an x-ray, an MRI, and some other physical wellness tests. Along with the nervousness, there's also a bit of a feeling of excitement. At this point in my journey, I'm just ready to have the surgery and move on with the rest of my life. I've realized I'm fortunate enough to be in a predicament where I only need a single surgery - unlike some other cases of Scoliosis that need multiple.
A major reason that I'm looking forward to getting the surgery is that I've started experiencing lower back pain almost daily, without performing any intense physical tasks. In a way I guess I kind of got used to the constant pain, but now it's been intensifying and every couple of weeks or so it becomes unbearable. Another reason I'm becoming eager for my surgery (but to a lesser extent) is that I hope my rib hump will be gone (at least mostly)! Since my surgery will be in the summer, I'm excited to wear some cute clothes, and I'm extremely hopeful that after my spinal fusion surgery that they'll fit me almost perfectly!
This blog is my own personal experience and journey with Scoliosis. It is not a medical blog, and if anyone has concerns about their own health, they should see a physician.
